In a proud moment for Arunachal Pradesh, the Aalo Urban Development (UD) Division in West Siang district has clinched the prestigious FICCI Urban Innovation Award 2025 for its innovative Puak Ghat Riverfront Development Project. The accolade, presented by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), was awarded in the “Innovative Urban Infrastructure” category at the Urban Challenge Summit & Awards in New Delhi. UD Executive Engineer Hali Welly accepted the honor on behalf of the division.
The Puak Ghat project, located at the confluence of the Yomgo and Sipu rivers, transformed a once flood-prone and unhygienic riverbank into a vibrant public space. Featuring scenic walkways, parks, open-air gyms, and essential amenities, the ₹4.95 crore initiative has not only enhanced community engagement but also boosted eco-tourism in the region. Selected as a top-three finalist among 80 nationwide entries, the project also earned a jury mention in the “Smart Public Spaces” category.
Chief Minister Pema Khandu and Deputy CM Chowna Mein lauded the achievement, highlighting the project’s blend of sustainability, practical planning, and community involvement. The award underscores Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to innovative urban development and creating inclusive, eco-friendly public spaces.
