Arunachal Pradesh Shines in PMMVY Enrollment with Anjaw, Pakke Kessang Leading National Rankings

Arunachal Pradesh has achieved a remarkable milestone in the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) enrollment drive, with Anjaw and Pakke Kessang districts securing the top two spots nationally for percentage progress. According to recent data from the Union Women and Child Development Ministry, Anjaw district recorded an impressive 354% achievement against its target, claiming the first position in India, while Pakke Kessang followed closely with 313% progress, securing second place.

The state's overall performance has also seen significant improvement, rising from the bottom tier to the sixth position among all states and Union Territories. Other districts, including Lower Dibang Valley (147%), Lower Siang (114%), and East Siang (61%), have also surpassed their enrollment targets, showcasing strong regional efforts. However, areas like Shi-Yomi, Lower Subansiri, and Leparada reported less than 10% progress, prompting authorities to intensify outreach and awareness campaigns.

The PMMVY, a flagship scheme under the National Food Security Act, 2013, provides financial support to pregnant and lactating women for their first two living children, with additional benefits for the second child if it is a girl. Targeting economically and socially disadvantaged groups, the scheme aims to enhance maternal and child health, promote positive attitudes toward the girl child, and compensate for wage loss during pregnancy. Eligible beneficiaries include SC/ST communities, persons with disabilities, BPL cardholders, MGNREGA workers, and PMJAY beneficiaries, excluding women in regular government or PSU employment.

State officials are optimistic about sustaining this momentum through grassroots implementation and increased community awareness to ensure comprehensive coverage across all 28 districts. This achievement highlights Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to empowering mothers and building healthier futures for its communities.
