In a proactive move to combat drug abuse, East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh held a District-Level Narco Coordination (NCORD) meeting in Pasighat, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Sonalika Jiwani. The meeting underscored the importance of skill development and robust support systems to reintegrate recovering youth into society. Over 12,000 students have been reached through awareness programs under Operation Dawn 2.0, a police-led initiative targeting drug trafficking.
The session focused on collaborative efforts involving multiple departments, police, and civil society to curb the drug menace. Key measures discussed included establishing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for drug de-addiction centers, enforcing liquor bans, and enhancing counseling services. Jiwani emphasized that equipping youth with vocational skills is critical for their rehabilitation and empowerment, aligning with the state’s vision for a drug-free future.
The meeting also reviewed progress on ongoing anti-drug operations, with the district administration urging stricter enforcement against peddlers and increased community involvement. This initiative reflects Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to tackling substance abuse through education, rehabilitation, and skill-building, ensuring a brighter future for its youth.
