Arunachal Pradesh is solidifying its position as a horticulture powerhouse in India, with Chief Minister Pema Khandu announcing the state’s remarkable achievements in kiwi, mandarin orange, and large cardamom production. The state has become the top producer of kiwi in the country, yielding over 7,000 metric tonnes annually, and is the first to earn organic certification for its kiwi crop. Additionally, Arunachal Pradesh ranks second nationally in mandarin orange production with 84,000 metric tonnes and leads the Northeast in large cardamom output, contributing 4,467 metric tonnes.
Highlighting these milestones, CM Khandu credited the dedication of farmers across regions like Dambuk and Ziro, whose efforts have driven the state’s horticulture success. Notably, Dambuk oranges are now reaching international markets, with exports to the United Arab Emirates, showcasing the global potential of Arunachal’s produce. The state’s favorable agro-climatic conditions and sustainable farming practices have been key to these accomplishments.
To further boost the sector, the state government has introduced the Horticulture Policy 2025–35, a strategic roadmap to enhance productivity and sustainability. The policy includes initiatives like the Arunachal Kiwi Mission to expand kiwi cultivation, the Arunachal Spice Mission to promote high-value spices such as cardamom, and the Arunachal Medicinal & Aromatic Plants Mission to support AYUSH-based industries. Other focus areas include empowering women and youth in farming, promoting climate-resilient practices, and reducing chemical use to ensure eco-friendly production.
This forward-looking policy aims to strengthen infrastructure, improve market access, and foster skill development, positioning Arunachal Pradesh as a model for sustainable horticulture growth in India.
