Arunachal Pradesh Police Apprehend Duo for Impersonating Officers in Knifepoint Robberies

Naharlagun Police in Arunachal Pradesh have arrested two habitual offenders, Margang Taya (24) and Rohan Tamang (23), for posing as police officers to rob victims at knifepoint in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR). The arrests followed a complaint lodged on July 29, 2025, by Taba Tath, who reported being threatened and robbed of his mobile phone near the Doni Colony tri-junction in Naharlagun.

Acting on the complaint, a police team led by Inspector K. Dev, under the supervision of SP Naharlagun Mihin Gambo, used CCTV footage and technical surveillance to track the suspects. The duo was apprehended within hours, and the stolen phone was recovered. Investigations revealed that Taya and Tamang, both with prior criminal records, used fake police identities to intimidate victims, threatening them with knives to steal valuables. The police have linked the suspects to multiple similar crimes in the ICR.

The accused are now in custody, facing charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for robbery, impersonation, and criminal intimidation. Authorities are continuing investigations to uncover any additional accomplices or related incidents. This swift action underscores the Arunachal Pradesh Police’s commitment to curbing crime and ensuring public safety in the region.
